School Fundraiser

SCHOOLSTORE.COM FUNDRAISER

Information about our Schoolstore.com fundraiser went home last week and the participation has been wonderful.  Our teachers have already earned over $10,000 in gift cards from parent donations, book/magazine orders through Family Book Store, and from purchases made from the over 400 vendors that donate a percentage of your sales back to the teachers/school.  The teachers will be able to use these gift cards at the CARING FOR CLASSROOMS website for classroom supplies and equipment.

We will continue to collect the envelopes over the next few weeks.  Extra ones are available in the office if you have misplaced yours.  You can also sign up at www.schoolstore.net and use the school ID 153736.  If you email the office the prize code, we will make sure your child gets the prize (jtrumbley@sjschools.org)

Please remember that this program is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.  But, when you are shopping on-line please consider going to schoolstore.com and click “FIND YOUR SCHOOL” and find Lincoln School in Saint Joseph, MI.  From there you will find over 400 merchants like Walmart, Kohl’s, Best Buy and more.  When you chose your merchant a percentage of your sales will automatically be donated to Lincoln school at no cost to you.

Thank you for all your support for Lincoln School.  .

I also have a classroom wishlist on Amazon where items can be purchased directly for the classroom.

Learning to reinforce at home:

Handwriting - Encourage your child to practice writing their letters at home. Using a simple workbook like what you can find at dollar tree is fine.

Finding simple sight words in books that you are reading together.

Ask your child to answer simple questions about the stories that they have read.

Can they retell the characters, setting, what happened first, next and last?

Are they able to make connections from their lives to the story?  Understand how the characters are feeling?

In School this week:

Personal Narrative  - This is the last week for personal narrative writing.  Next week we will begin opinion writing.  Be sure to ask your child to read what they have written each day.

Positivity Project: Integrity - being honest and speaking the truth.

3-D shape Museum - Please continue to send in 3-D shaped objects.  Label with tape with your child’s name please.  We will send objects back home this Friday.

Looking ahead:

100th Day

We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Tuesday, February 16th.  A letter will come home explaining the project you and your child are to do and bring in on the 100th day.  We will display these for the week in the hallway and then return them home at the end of the week.  The projects can be a collection all together in a container, a collection displayed in a creative way, or items in groups of 5’s or 10’s.  Our 100th day is coming soon so start planning now what your child would like to bring in for their project!

Jan 28 and 29 - ½ days - Mrs Confer will be out there will be a sub in am.

Feb 12th and 15th  - No School

ADMINISTRATION DECISION:

Computers may NOT be left at school. In order to be consistent across buildings and grades, the kindergarten students are to take home their computers every night to charge and do work as needed.  They are then to be returned to school everyday for classroom use.  I am so sorry for all the confusion.  This is a final decision for this school year.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr Hubble.

Snowgear - LABEL EVERYTHING and put it all in a separate reusable bag.  Backpacks should be for things that are dry: computers, folders and library books.  Outerwear will often get wet or muddy and should not go in the backpack with other school materials.   These items may stay at school during the week and come home on weekends if that works well for your family.  Just tell your child the plan.

Positivity Project - Our word this week was Perseverance. We never give up even when things are difficult.

We are using the phrase: “Not Yet” instead of “I can’t”

Parent Teacher Conferences

Winter conferences are not intended for all families.  I have sent out notices to confirm times for all the families with whom I am meeting. If you did not get your note or need a reminder, please text or email me.

If your child is in need or headphones or water bottles, I will be sending home notes.  These are important for our classroom and every child needs both.

This week is a catch up week for us.  Lots of review and practice of what we have learned so far.  Please be sure to practice the sight words and spelling words with your child at home.  This week almost our whole class got perfect or near perfect scores on Spelling!!!  Keep it up!

3-D shape Museum - Please read the notice on the back about sending in 3-D shaped objects.  Label with tape with your child’s name please.  We will send objects back home next Friday.

Computers may be left at school. If you would like, your child can leave their computer at school.  Please send your child’s computer, charger and case back to school on Monday.   We are going to try to use them each day. We will send them home in the event that we go remote.  If you are using your computers with your child at home on a regular basis and would like to continue to do so then you may continue to send it back and forth with a full charge.

Snowgear - LABEL EVERYTHING.  Students will need snowpants, snow boots, hats and thick waterproof gloves or mittens.  These items may stay at school during the week and come home on weekends if that works well for your family.  Just tell your child the plan.

Positivity Project - Our word this week was Prudence. Help your child to stop and think about the future when making decisions;  making smart choices now impact later.

We are visualizing a stop light to remind us to stop and think before we decide.
NWEA Testing
Testing went well last week. Every child was in attendance on the two testing days so there will be no makeups on the 20th.  Thank you.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Winter conferences are not intended for all families.  Generally I am planning to meet only with about 7 families.  I will send out notices to those families directly.  I will also send out a questionnaire to the other families.  If you have a concern that you would like to discuss, I am more than happy to meet with you as well.  Simply fill out the note and return.  I will be sending out notes after the NWEA testing is complete on Jan 20th.  Conferences will be held virtually the following M-W in the evening.

FREE MEALS for all students this year!
Breakfast and lunch will be FREE for the entire school year, thanks to the extension of the Summer Feeding Program offered by the USDA.

We are still asking families to still apply for Free/Reduced meals through www.lunchapp.com.
