Important Dates Nov 4, 11, 18 & 25 -Late Start Nov 12th, 13th, 20th - Half Days Nov 25-27 - Thanksgiving Break
Over the next two weeks, I will be assessing your student in preparation for our first report cards that will go home at Thanksgiving Break. We will be looking at letter sound identification, rhyming, identifying/writing numbers 0-20, shape identification, development of writing, number sense sums up to 10, and various other kindergarten skills. I would like to wait to conference again after report cards go home and when we get back from Thanksgiving Break. I can meet earlier if you desire. | Daily Folder - Continue to check daily Cold Weather Wear - Please mark all cold weather items with your children's name. It is the season of lost mittens, gloves and hats. If your child wears boots, please send shoes in their backpack. You can consider having a pair that they leave here in their locker. Water bottles - Please send your child with a water bottle to school. Snacks - We have 17 children in our class right now. Please make sure your child brings enough snacks on their leader day. Library - Library books go home every Thursday. Please help your child to remember to return the book to school. |
Homework Please help your child complete their monthly homework calendar and maybe post on the fridge where the kids can see it. If your child brings home something that is not completed, please ask them about it and encourage them to complete at home if possible. Sometimes the students fall behind or just need the quiet space of home to concentrate on some of the activities. Online -Yesterday, I sent home the login for Lexia Core 5.. I would like for you and your child to log in at least one time during the weekend and work for 10 minutes. Make sure that you have been able to access my weekly Blog and check the Google Classroom. | Academics In Language Arts, we are continuing to learn about Sequence of Events. We will begin to understand the beginning, middle and end of a story and practice retelling stories using our own words. So far, we have learned the following sight words: I , like & am. Please help your child find these words in their books at home when you are reading with them. In Math, we are practicing simple word problems using addition: 1-10 In our Journals, we are working on creating sentences. Also counting words in our sentences and using spaces. Weather Watchers We have been studying how the sun heats the earth and affects our lives. |

Halloween - We will be doing Halloween activities throughout the day. At the end of the day, we will have a movie and popcorn as our celebration.The children may wear their costumes to school. We recommend a simple costume since it will be worn all day (to recess, lunch, art etc). Please label all the pieces of your child’s costume. Costumes should not be scary for the other children.. No weapons are allowed at school.

This homework is not mandatory but can be used to reinforce what we learn in class. If your child brings home something that is not completed, please ask them about it and encourage them to complete at home if possible. I would like for you and your child to log in at least one time during the weekend and complete a simple Halloween activity. Parent Teacher Conferences Please sign up for your time and day for Parent Teacher Conferences. Because we can not have parents in the school, we are holding these virtually. Google Meets is the preferred choice but I can also accommodate Facetime or over the phone if needed. This will be a brief meeting 10-15 minutes and we will follow up with another discussion of our report card in a 2nd conference in Nov. Ask your child to recite the Class Rules: #1 Follow Directions quickly #2 Be Safe #3 Be Kind #4 Make smart choices #5 Keep your Dear Teacher (and classmates) happy. | Homework Please help your child complete their monthly homework calendar. Daily 5 endurance We are now up to Daily 5. Children can read to self, work on writing, and do word work (literacy related tubs). This week we will add Listen to Reading. SEL Social Emotional Learning This cycle we had our 2nd virtual visit from Mrs. VanHekken, our social worker. She teaches us about Social Emotional Learning. We will be reading 10 books called ‘We Thinkers” books, to learn social and emotional concepts. Last week we read “Thinking Thoughts and Feeling feelings”. This week our book is “The Group Plan”. Weather Watchers In Science, we are continuing to study the weather and will begin graphing to look for patterns and changes as Fall continues
| Language Arts In Language Arts, we are learning about main ideas. We listen and look for clues in the reading passage and in the pictures. . This cycle, we will begin our phonics bags with the letters A and M. Our sight word is “am”. Help your child to look for those letters in books at home. Math In Math, we are learning our shapes names and practicing writing our numbers correctly 1-20
Phonemic Awareness In Phonics, we are continuing with a curriculum called Heggerty. (heggerty.com for more info) It takes us about 15 minutes each day and is very inclusive of all areas of phonemic awareness. I am excited to see the children grow and learn with these new activities. . |
Journals In our Journals, we are working on using letter sounds to label our drawings. We are making sure that our picture matches the words This week, we will begin using capital I and the sight word am to make sentences with a period. | Bucket Fillers Students are learning how to think about others and their feelings. Meal Magic - You can preorder lunches. Right now school breakfast and lunches are free to all students. Water Bottle and Afternoon snack - I still have some students that do not bring water bottles every day. I do not have any alternatives as the drinking fountains are closed. It is very important. Illnesses - Please call office and email me to report your child’s absences and symptoms they are experiencing. |

This year, I will be scheduling Parent teacher conferences in October and November. We will meet virtually via google meets for ten minutes each month to touch base and answer any questions you might have and give a brief discussion of how your student is doing. Sign Up will go home on Friday of this week for times to meet virtually on Oct 15/16. |
