Halloween

Wednesday, October 31st. Our party will be the last hour of school.  2:30-3:20

The children may wear their costumes to school. We recommend a simple costume since it will be worn all day (to recess, lunch, art etc).  Please label all the pieces of your child’s costume. Costumes should not be scary for the other children..  No weapons are allowed at school..

Daily Folder - Continue to check daily

Water bottles - Please send your child with a water bottle to school.

Snacks

We have 16 children in our class right now.  Please make sure your child brings enough snacks on their leader day and that they are free from peanuts and red dye

Library

Library books go home every Thursday.  Please help your child to remember to return the book to school.

Gym

Please encourage your child to wear gym shoes everyday.  It is much easier than trying to remember them on gym days

Parent Teacher Conferences

Please sign up for your time and day for Parent Teacher Conferences.  Because we can not have parents in the school, we are holding these virtually.  Google Meets is the preferred choice but I can also accommodate Facetime or over the phone if needed.  This will be a brief meeting 10-15 minutes and we will follow up with another discussion of our report card in a 2nd conference in Nov.

Ask your child to recite the Class Rules:

#1 Follow Directions quickly

#2 Be Safe

#3 Be Kind

#4 Make smart choices

#5 Keep your Dear Teacher

 (and classmates) happy.

Homework

Please help your child complete their monthly homework calendar.  Your child will receive a prize from our treasure chest when his/her form is returned to school with your signature. This homework is not mandatory but  can be used to reinforce what we learn in class.

If your child brings home something that is not completed, please ask them about it and encourage them to complete at home if possible.  Sometimes the students fall behind or just need the quiet space of home to concentrate on some of the activities.

Daily 5 endurance

We are now up to Daily 5.  Children can read to self, work on writing, and  do word work (literacy related tubs).  This week we will add Listen to Reading.

SEL Social Emotional Learning

This cycle we had our 2nd virtual  visit from Mrs. VanHekken, our social worker.  She teaches us about Social Emotional Learning.  We will be reading 10 books called ‘We Thinkers” books, to learn social and emotional concepts.  Last week we read “Thinking Thoughts and Feeling feelings”.  This week  our book is “The Group Plan”.

Weather Watchers

In Science, we are continuing to study the weather and will begin graphing to look for patterns and changes as Fall continues

Language Arts

In Language Arts, we are learning about main ideas.  We listen and look for clues in the reading passage and in the pictures.

.

This cycle, we will begin our phonics bags with the letters A and M.  Our sight word is “am”.  Help your child to look for those letters in books at home.

Math

In Math, we are learning our shapes names and practicing writing our numbers correctly 1-20

Phonemic Awareness

In Phonics, we are continuing with a curriculum called Heggerty. (heggerty.com for more info)  It takes us about 15 minutes each day and is very inclusive of all areas of phonemic awareness.  I am excited to see the children grow and learn with these new activities.

.

Journals

In our Journals, we are working on using letter sounds to label our drawings. We are making sure that our picture matches the words

This week, we will begin using capital I and the sight word am to make sentences with a period.

Bucket Fillers

Students are learning how to think about others and their feelings. How do we look for ways to make others feel special?
